In the latter part of 2011, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543 in North Union expressed an interest in promoting a band program. Former V.F.W. Band members, as well as area music educators and high school musicians from Fayette, Greene, Washington, and Westmoreland counties, accepted the challenge. After an initial organizational meeting, the first rehearsal was February 13, 2012. Eleven players were in attendance. Through personal recruitment, word-of-mouth, and a few public performances, the numbers and interest in the Band began to grow. By the end of May 2012, thirty-five talented and dedicated musicians were regularly attending rehearsals.

The Band - which now has 70+ members - rehearses on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Mondays in February-December. Performance events include military and holiday ceremonies, community functions and parades, summer concerts and festivals, and senior care facilities. Performance venues include: Uniontown, Connellsville, Point Marion, Fairchance, Washington, and Canonsburg. Due to our performance at the 2013 PA State V.F.W. Convention in Lancaster, PA, we received the designation as the PA State V.F.W. Band.

The Band performs music in a variety of popular styles, such as, march, patriotic, ballad, pop, swing, country, Latin, jazz, and polka. The Band presents both instrumental and vocal selections. Our season concludes in December each year with the Band's annual performances at the Uniontown Mall and "A Holiday Concert" at the State Theater in Uniontown.

The Band is financially supported through monetary donations and performance fees.
